Spend time with the photo

The emergent universe is a revelatory experience

Thomas Berry CP,

self-described geo-logian

The universe itself, but especially the planet Earth, needs to be experienced as the primary mode of Divine Presence, just as it is the primary educator, primary healer, primary commercial establishment and primary law giver for all that exists within this community.

Look beyond ourselves to the larger universe we live in.

Participate in the forgiveness, the peace,

the intimacy of all things with each other.

Discover the great community of the Earth,

a comprehensive community of all the living

and nonliving components of the planet.

Every reality of the universe

is intimately present to every other reality of the universe

and finds its fulfillment in this mutual presence.

The entire evolutionary process depends on communion.

Thomas Berry CP,

in Dream of the Earth and Evening Thoughts

Kathleen Deignan, CND, founder of the Institute for Earth and Spirit at Iona University and former student of Thomas Berry, has edited a magnificent book of excerpts from his writings.  Using a simplified format of the the traditional monastic daily hours of prayer, Deignan has made Berry's inspiring work accessible and easily readable.

This book completes her magnificent trilogy - with a similar Book of Hours drawn from the words of Thomas Merton and one using the words of Teilhard de Chardin.

Rejoice! people who enjoy contemplative moments with mystics like these as well as those who have found their original writings difficult to penetrate.  Thankyou, Kathleen Deignan!
