Day 24
A great liturgy
Spend time with the photo

Dawn and sunset are moments
When the numinous source of all existence
is experienced with special sensitivity.
In springtime, the flowering world
sets forth its blossoms.
The birds appear in the brilliance of their coloring,
in the ease and skill of their flight
and in the beauty of their song.
Then there are the fearsome moments
when thunder rolls across the heavens
and the lightning shatters both
the sky and the earth.
In the northern hemisphere,
when the autumn comes,
the fruits appear, the birds depart,
the leaves fall, darkness settles over the land.
In various tropical regions,
the rain comes more fully
in their seasonal sequence.
Living things come into being,
flourish, then fade from the scene.

This ever renewing sequence of sunrise and sunset,
of seasonal succession
constitutes a pattern of life,
a great liturgy,
a celebration of existence.
